Enjoy live Japanese Taiko Drumming, SAKE EXPO, Japanese street foods, cultural performances, kids games and more! There will be audience participation with an opportunity for you to play the taiko drums!
There will be a variety of performances taking place throughout the afternoon. Enjoy the performances filled with Japanese culture!

Genbu Daiko

Come and see the powerful rhythms of Japanese traditional taiko drums performed by Genbu Daiko – San Diego. There will be audience participation with an opportunity for you to play the taiko drums!
Genbu Daiko was founded by Noel Garcia, with over 20 years of taiko performance and teaching experience, Genbu’s goal is to teach and share the art form of taiko in hopes of spreading creativity, expression and passion among themselves and throughout the community.

Japan Karate Do

Demonstration of Karate Kata and Kobudo. Watch a choreographed demonstration using real katana swords.
Hanshi M. Miki is a highly decorated karate instructor worldwide. Hanshi is the first person outside of Japan to be awarded the 8th degree black belt and has received the prestigious honor of receiving the Hanshi-Go (Grand Mastership) by Soke Kenzo Mabuni, the heir of the founder of Shito Ryu, Karate-Do Kenwa Mabuni.

Sanshin – Song of Okinawa Islands

The “Sanshin” is a traditional and very popular musical instrument in Okinawa. Okinawa is beautiful islands located on the end of the southwest of Japan. The Sanshin is indispensable to life of people in Okinawa with traditional “Shima-Uta” that means song of islands.
Kimono Fashion Show
San Diego Kimono Club

San Diego Kimono club was formed in 2013. The members are all volunteers who love Japanese culture and want to carry on their Japanese heritage. The kimonos are very special garments and some members have worn ones that are over one hundred years old where some kimonos have been passed down from their grandmothers and their mothers.

KOKEDAMA Workshop
Moss based arts and crafts by HD Creations
Learn the art and craft of the Japanese Kokedama, a moss based traditional bonsai form.
Kokedama, simply means “moss ball.” HD Creations will hold a workshop at Shimbashi’s 10th anniversary celebration. In this class, you’ll create your own Kokedama with a plant of your choice, and learn best practices for care and upkeep. There will be 2 sessions and seats are limited to a maximum of 6 people in each class. Learn more.

Get dressed and styled in a yukata, summer kimono. Enjoy the photo session solo or with your friends and family. With cute accessories, try a different type of photo shoot for amazing pictures!
Fee: $10/person including one-hour free time dressed in kimono.
